What is Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?
Your prospects are out looking for you. They want to do business with you but if they can’t find you then you both lose.
As you know, search engines are what people turn to first to find what they want. If your business is on page ten, guess what? Most people stop at page two.
We can get your domain on the first page of Google. We’ve done it before, we can do it again!
Here are a couple of things you can do right now to get started. It only takes a couple of minutes and you will gather a whole lot of valuable information.
One thing to remember is you are only “renting” your domain name. Once you stop paying the annual fee you loose the domain and it goes back into the pool. So be sure to protect your domain it is a valuable asset for your company.
- First, what keywords do you think your clients would use to find you? Keywords are usually two or more words people type into the search engines to find what they want. Let’s say you have a med spa and offer “laser hair removal“. Bingo! Your first keywords.
- Go to Google and type the keyword “laser hair removal” into the search box.
Skip the sites in the yellow box at the top, these are paid ads.
Skip the Wikipedia listing.
Slide past the map (the bubbles with the letters) and get to the organic listings.[As an aside: If your company is not on the map you need to get listed there ASAP]
- At the top go to View > Page Source
- Look for what are called the meta-files. Here are the three to look for:
- Title - <TITLE>Premier Laser Clinic -Laser Hair Removal-Skin Care-Experienced Staff</TITLE>
- Keywords - <meta name=”Keywords” content=”Laser Hair Removal, IPL Photorejuvenation, Skin Rejuvenation, Microdermabrasion, Micro, Photo Facial, Medspa Portland, OR, Lumenis, Aesthetic treatments”>
- Description - <meta name=”Description” content=”Our experienced staff offers laser hair removal, microdermabrasion and Photo Facial in Portland Oregon.”>
- Title - <TITLE>Premier Laser Clinic -Laser Hair Removal-Skin Care-Experienced Staff</TITLE>
Keep in mind search engines only read text, they don’t see pretty pictures. So if you were a search engine and you see “laser hair removal” in:
- The title
- The keyword
- The description
- The page content
Where do you suppose you would show this page in the search?
“Show Me The Money”
Here at Its-Alive we “eat our own cooking.” Or put another way we do what we say. If you look at the source code for any of the pages on this site you will see the title includes the keywords.
Each keyword is selected by;
- The competition – the other sites that are competing for the first page. The fewer the better.
- The number of searches – We want the most searches we can get.
- The Pay-Per-Click – this is what advertisers pay when someone clicks on the ad. Not the most important but interesting.
Here are the keyword titles for the navigation above:
